We think that this garment has been altered and mended several times for one person as they grew and probably aged. We also think it has been altered to reflect the changing styles of the times but that is uncertain. What we know is that there is a motif of multiple parallel stitch lines which appear in several places which you would not expect, for example there is a panel inserted on each side which features this as well as some unpicked stitch-lines in the same patters around the bottom waist. The lining also looks like panels have been inserted and changed but it is hard to tell the order in which things might have been changes without more research and close looking
