Description:

Black silk satin child’s kimono with couched and padded goldwork dragons and clouds. The hem of the garment has an additional roll of padded material. In Japanese culture the dragon usually represents boys and the phoenix represents the girl so this kimono may have been made for a young boy.

Date:

1900-1990 Japanese culture continues to practice traditional kimono making so this garment is very difficult to date.

Condition notes:

Fair condition. Some seams separating. Silk fabric is quite delicate but intact. Gold tarnished on goldwork. Some brown staining on front collar
